On May 3rd 2008 South Carolina will be joining the 100 Day Fast for Darfur, which runs from April 7th, the 14th anniversary of the 100 days of the Rwanda genocide in 1994, during which more than 800 people lost their lives.
It is our way to stand together with the victims and survivors of Darfur, today’s ongoing genocide, and demand immediate protection for the millions of innocent civilians that are in grave danger of displacement, starvation, rape, and death. We fast to demand urgent action from the international community, and we fast to support greatly needed food relief.
The South Carolina Team is made up of 46 fasters (one for each county in SC) who will fast on May 3rd and hope to raise funds for the World Food Program through sponsorship and support from local communities. The fasters will wear 'Darfur Needs You' shirts to show their participation in the fast, and the Darfur Action Group of South Carolina urges all supporters to participate in this event by contributing sponsorship, by joining the fast, or simply by wearing a shirt.
